Lisa Allen is a
photographer, dancer, and Art Educator based out of New York City.
Currently she is pursuing her career as an educator in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, teaching art and drama at the Kaohsiung American School. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Photography and Related Media from
the School of Visual Arts, as well as her Post-Baccalaureate Teaching Certification
with the New York City Board of Education. While in New York, she worked with many students and programs throughout the city, teaching art, literacy, and dance to children and adults. After graduate school, she also proudly
worked as the Visual Arts Specialist at The Clinton School (MS260) in Chelsea,
one of the city's finest public middle schools.
While teaching,
Lisa also worked as a freelance photographer and graphic designer, shooting regularly for a variety of clients including ExploreDance.com. As a dancer, she enjoyed the opportunities to perform Salsa, Tango, and ChaCha, teach Salsa/Mambo at Stepping Out
Studios, appear in films, and perform independently.
Of course, all the while she continued to present her photographic work in solo and group exhibits. Her photographic work has covered many different types of images, ranging from passionate dancers to quiet, abstract landscapes shot all over the world. Exhibition highlights include a recent show in Montreal, France (2005), Anthem Gallery, SoHo, NYC (2005) Spark Gallery, New York City (2004), Photo District Gallery, NYC (2002), and the Visual Arts Gallery, SoHo NYC (2002) . Lisa's artwork and ideas continue to evolve as she takes root in her new environment. Taiwan has been and continues to be a constant learning experience, with new cultures, people, sights, and languages influencing her art on a daily basis. Also, the opportunities she has had for rewgional and global travel since her arrival, have had an enormous impact on her artwork as it continues to evolve. Even on the other side of the world, art, dance, and finding beauty in the world around her are a way of life.
